Sanjy I went to my local garden centre to look for a climbing rose and as I was there I looked to see what clematis they had, well they had 3 different types, a white one and two pink ones, well I picked one I liked and the one that had more than one stem on it and I’ve just seen it is the same as your one, Montana Mayleen, it cost €11.50, but I thought it would be a lot more than that, so this will be going over the new arch we have just put up. That was a result that you got the free pots.

Tetley thank you for the advice with the cutting, I will write this down so I don’t forget. Tetley when you say that they need to be planted quite deep, how deep do you mean, on the labels it says plant 2 or 3 inches deep from soil level, is this deep enough, I’ve got some horse manure and compost, so will give the ground a good go over.

Tetley , I agree that clematis need to go in the ground

but may years ago our Garden society had a talk from a clematis breeder/ growers and she recommended doing a clematis ball which I did using small / cheap plants and it was fantastic , need to over winter in G/H and cut it back

As you can see I have just done another one , hope it goes as well as the last one

the pervious one unfortunately died following a really bad winter a few years ago , -11 in the G/H for weeks , in fact nothing survived even though the G/H was insulated

ok, the clematis is now in the ground rather than the basket, in order for it to still climb over the summer house and plant it in the only available bed i had to move/empty the compost bin which was sat on it, chop off alot of the cordyline off shoots as it has about 20 large off shoots on it from the trunks, move the dwarf pear tree (it hadn't blossomed anyway, and clear and turn over the hole bed and off course unattach the clematis from it's bamboo trellis, plant it and attach it again, ive just come in now image so thank you tetley

lorna glad you got the clematis, has it got any flowers on that you can smell, i keep smelling my one as i walk past it as it is the only plant in the garden with scent at the mo, i haven't planted this one any deeper as i read last night on rhs not to plant group 3 clematis deep just at soil level. image

GWRS, I like the ball idea, would look nice with so many different plants.

Tetley, Thanks again for the advice, i think i'm on the right road now.image

Sanjy It has about 3 to 4 flowers on it, but i didn't smell, (stupid me),

You said it say to keep it at soil level but this one say's 2 to 3 inches deep.

can't you book mark the pages you want to keep, in the address bar above have you got a star at the end, if you have click on it and where it says 'folder' type in gardening advice or something silmilar and then everytime you want to keep any pages on the comp they will be saved to that folder, i have ones for recipes, gardening and all manner of things, then they are easy to find

Yep i have one of them Sanjy and i have saved it, but the amount of pages i save i'll still never find it, so i was going to write it down aswell,

I save loads of pages and then forget all about them.image
