As long as you enjoy it - it doesn't really matter what variety it is.
The main reason for asking was for pruning purposes but it's likely to be one of the usual summer types which you would cut back in late winter/early spring to some healthy buds at around 1 or 2 feet. If you browse one of the specialist clematis growers sites (Taylor's is a big favourite here) you might be able to ID it or at least get some idea. For instance, The President is a purple variety which many of the DIY stores (and the shop you got it in) will sell as it's a straightforward and popular plant. Etoile Violette is another - it has smaller and darker flowers than The President.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I'd just let them get to the top then gravity dictates, they'll start to tumble back down.
As has been said, trimming risks losing flowers.

My scented tritorubimarginata has been decimated by snails.
They seem to be growing taller this year. My patio clematis which is only supposed to grow to 4ft is now 6ft tall. I'm just going to let it tumble.
Wish my azalea was doing as well as my clematis!
Strange white bobbles on some of the new leaves now. Look different to azela gall though....
