Rose sawfly
My neighbour has recently had a pretty bad attack of rose sawfly and now it's spread into my garden.
I have a run of climbing rose about 25 feet long and several shrubs dotted about the borders in my back garden. All are showing signs with severely rolled leaves. I don't like to use chemicals and have picked off all the affected leaves. However they are looking pretty bare after this. I've also sprayed with garlic barrier spray.
Couple of questions, what can I do to stop it spreading to my terrace (about 30 yards away) and my front garden (about 40 years away) plus how can I reinvigorate the large plants I've pretty much denuded.
Thank you.

Hi,
Try using a spray of diluted Neem oil ... it is totally organic.
See this link for further info.

and this one for how to make it.

I make up a spray of neem oil and as soon as growth starts in April I drench the foliage. Any spare solution goes onto the soil below the plant as the earthworms are supposed to love it. I repeat spray every few of weeks.
Neem is best used preventatively ... but should help with your current attack.
It is totally organic and although it stinks a bit is easy to mix up and apply.
I got mine off ebay .... wasn't expensive for a big bottle which will last ages. At room temperature it is solid, but goes liquid again within a couple of hours in the airing cupboard.
Worth a try.

Brilliant, thank you very much.
