Windrush(?) taking over lawn

I am currently having major problems with what I am told is Windrush(?). My two lawns are in good condition otherwise, but in the last two or three years this weed or grass type is disfiguring one of my lawns. Can anyone recommend anything which will kill the roots of this plant. Any help would be gratefully received. Thank you in advance for considering my problem. Martin
