daffodils

For many years I have had a frontage of daffodils alongside the road.  They have always made a lovely show but the last couple of years dwindled I tried feeding them after flowering but this year hardly any bloomed.  Is it time to dig them up and replace them.

Yes, dig them up, they're probably very congested and whats left hasn't got enough food to produce flowers. When you do I'd feed the soil heavily with FYM and some bonemeal. By the Autumn you should have a decent soil in which to plant new.

    Probably.

I have had problems with new daffodil bulbs as well as the old ones this year. Only the tall King Alfred types were affected but 80% of them were blind. I've just dug out the ones that were in pots and the bulb size is good so I have no idea why they failed. All the smaller varieties did very well this year.

Ive started digging up the old bulbs thinking maybe I will plant clumps of daffs and clumps of wallflowers for a change this year maybe plant daffs which flower at different  times

That'll give you a nice succession of blooms and scents.
