Dock by a pond

a1154a1154 Posts: 1,108

I really hate dock, and its taken hold by my pond with lots of large ones.  I would spray them anywhere else,  but dont know how to tackle them near the pond. I dont think digging out is an option, so im a bit stuck.  Any ideas?

Bruise the leaves and paint them with Roundup or any other weedkiller containing glyphosate.

Sadly it's no longer permitted to recommend mixing it with a little wall-paper paste to stop it running http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/gardeningadvice/8659502/No-let-up-in-the-war-on-weeds.html but that's what we used to do.

Or put a 2 litre plastic bottle (top and bottom removed) over each one and spray glyphosate into the bottle. Or put a bucket(s) over the plants you don't want to spray.

Glyphosate at the correct dilution is recommended for aquatic use.

This may not be too realistic for a small area but it's a pretty cool way to deal with dock.  I love how they turn the leaves into lace.

    That sounds good Dove.

Onion, there aren't any plants i need to keep, and the docks are a bit big for a 2 litre bottle, but the glyphosate product i have is definitely not for use near ponds.

Ah ive seen some green beetles.  Clearly they need to pull their socks up and get the job done.
