hi
my beans are about 8 inches high and are starting to produce flowers, do I need to pinch flowers off? to encourage growth I know to do this with my toms but not sure with beans

No - leave the flowers on your broad beans - the bees will pollinate them and then you will have your beans.
I don't pinch out tomato flowers either
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
