whisteria cuttings
in Plants
I have a lovely Wisteria sensis, that has a proper graft, and it now flowers lovely. If I managed to take a cutting from it, does anyone know how long it would take to flower ? and would it grow as good without a graft ?

i'm not sure about cuttings so can't help there but i have just got a non grafted wisteria senensis and it had a low down branch near the soil level that i have serpentin layered for roots to grow.
(if you don't know) if the stem has at least four buds on it you make a slice (not going any deeper than half way) under the first bud, you add some hormone gel to the wound and peg that into the soil, the next bud stays above ground then do the slice ,(add hormone if you have it )under the third bud and peg that one into the soil and the end containing the fourth bud is above ground and you tie this to a bamboo and points upwards and fingers crossed these will root.I have placed a pebble onto the two which are under the soil and one in between to keep the third bud off the soil, the result is it looks like the loch ness monster
sorry i can't help with your grafting questions as mine is ungrafted so i don't know.
I've read Wisteria cutting can take many , many years ( sometimes decades) to flower, but can't do any harm to try.
i think cuttings and layered cuttings are fine for flowering but seeds can take decades in some cases. i found this link for you, it just says on another page not to take cuttings from below the graft

I had a layer off of my original plant. It flowered after two years in the newly transplanted position.
You're right Sanjy, it's seeds I was thinking about.
Thank you to everyone, and I'll keep my fingers crossed hoping I'll follow in the boots of fidgetbones.
