Planting bare root geraniums

Lena NLena N Posts: 189

I ordered some hardy geraniums (not pelargoniums) online and have just received them - they are supplied as bare roots.  I just wanted to check before planting them if they should be ok planted straight out into my border, or if you would recommend potting them on in a container first?

Many thanks

Soak them in a bucket of water for a few hours and then pot them up for a few weeks, before planting them out.

Snap. As a test I bought 2 the same, potted one up and planted another straight out. This was in late feb. The potted up one has grown strongly (15cm x 15cm) and is now in a raised bed. The other has about 4-5 leaves peeking above the surface. Would never plant bare roots straight out again now I have a greenhouse.
