The overall plan at the moment is nothing more than as follows....
1. Remove and clear all the crap already created and dig up / kill off weeds as often as possible. (the entire 'lawn' area will be for the children so that needs to be safe)
2. A friend does groundwork for a living and is therefore going to break up all of the concrete patches where sheds or greenhouses have sat before. The sun hits this area first and slowly creeps over the garden and this area offers shade and privacy later in the day. This will be the patio area. I already have the slabs for this and I'll cover a 13sq m area.
3.create a compost bin / heap at the back where you can see the wood chippings already. This will also become a work area and I'm hoping for a greenhouse eventually.
Other than that. I have no other plans for this year. Just tidy and de weed and have a patio at some point.
Hopefully I'm not being over zealous with my ambitions. I'm a stay at home dad and most of my time can be spent outside with the kids so I'm onto a winner in that respect.
Thanks for all of the replies and I will update as and when I've made a dent
Sounds like you're well organised Wayne, and doing all the right things. Once the hard graft is done you can have fun plotting and planning. You'll get loads of help, support and advice from people on here as you go along. Take plenty of pix of each change - it's a good way of staying motivated on the days when you feel a bit jaded, and it's always good in a year or two to look back and see what you've achieved
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Would it be possible for your friend to save some of those slabs as they are substantial and you could use again in your replanted garden? Was that gated area used for chickens?
The slabs are actually just big blocks of concrete which the old sheds used to sit on, it'll be broken up and compacted to help me create a hardcore sin Base for the patio with a lot more mpt1 to come!
The gated area at the back is actually for my dogs. Although they hate it in their, as you can see, one of them has already caved one side in and I need to refix with bigger bolts! I'd love to think it could be used for chickens but I worry about the lack of earth and the attraction of rats. The neighbours aren't exactly... How do I say this without being rude.... I can't... The neighbours just wouldn't be happy about it.
Actually, scrap that. I think you mean the slabs in the last photo? Those are actually covering an air raid shelter (how cool is that!!) those will stay where they are.
The patio will be laid in the space shown on picture 4.
Of course we want pics Wayne! Work in progress, we love to watch it unfold! Its a lovely garden you have with huge potential! I bet your loving getting stuck in and making it your own! Looking forward to seeing the progress!
Sorry for the delay in coming back with photos, im having internet issues at home (gives me more chance to be in the garden!!) and i cant seem to upload them! Im going to try and upload them to photobucket and maybe that will work.

Good idea though.

Sorry it's been a while. It's been a bit crazy.
I wondered if anybody would be interested in some updated photos?
Hoping you are all well!

Yes piccies please, love to see how a garden emerges for chaos.
Bring on more photos Wayne.
Inspiration for those in the same boat, and memories for those who have done the same.
