dahlias

hi

Ive been planting some dahlia tubers and some tubers came with a few of the tubers separated from the stem/neck of the dahlia. If I plant these tubers, will they grow or should I just discard them?

thanks,

fiona

I usually discard them, they never grow into a plant for me.

I agree.  Dahlias sprout new shoots from the remaining stem rather from the tubers.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

If is has an eye then you will get a shoot.

They are difficult to spot however, you could pot it up and wait 2 weeks for signs of growth if not bid it.

Hi Fiona, I agree, I have had mixed results dependent on where I purchased my dahlias but the common factor being that separated tubers have not sprouted, but optimistically I do try and leave them a few weeks image
