Broad Beans
in Fruit & veg
My Broad Beans (Aquadulce Claudia) don't seem to be doing that well this year. In the past I'm sure they were a lot taller by this time of year. They have started to flower but at this rate the beans will be touching the ground they're so low. Is any one else experiencing the same.

Hi Jane
When did you sow them?
Mine were sown at the end of October if I remember correctly, and they're a good height, 18"+ and covered with flowers (and bumble bees) - no beans yet, but it can only be a matter of time - getting hungry here - I shall be taking the tops out (and steaming them and serving with parsley butter) as soon as the first little beans appear
Edited to add: I've just been out and checked - most of the plants are 2' to 2'6" tall and covered with blooms.

Thanks for that. Our were planted in root trainers under glass and planted out towards the end of March. Ours on average about 18 inches high, we've grown this variety before and we seem to recall that they were a lot taller before they started to flower. Just have to wait and see what happens.
Happy growing season to you, may the fork be with you.
Happy Star Wars Day to you too Jane
