Tomatoes in a cold GH

nutcutletnutcutlet Posts: 27,445

I've got several toms that I've been keeping on a windowsill at night and out in the cold GH most days as thelight is better. They now need another potting on which will make them too big for the windowsill. Can I leave them in the GH now please? What's the lowest temperature they can cope with. We're expecting minimum 7C on the 5 day forecast, (less another 2 degrees as we're in the sticks not a city).

My tomatoes have been in the GH at night for some time now. I did have them on a heated mat, but I've turned it off now and they have survived 5° at night.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Nut, mine went into the GH yesterday as they are getting too big for indoors they are standing on the potting bench and have been covered with fleece overnight. I think 5C - 7C might be a bit cold but it won't kill them, the stems might look a bit blue but they will be okay...says she hopefully image

Thanks KEF, maybe  I should get a bit of fleece. Or build a cage with an old sheetimage

Cage sounds good maybe use an old net curtain so light gets through. Not saying you have an abundance of old nets knocking about image

Thanks KEF,  Somewhere, there is a length of muslin type fabric, somewhere, some cupboardimage

I've had mine out in the cold greenhouse since I potted them up about a month ago! They were the gw/t&m offer ones, so came as those micro plugs! All are now about 8-10 inchs high and growing well. Greenhouse has been open on most days and closed over at night, with the vent open. Was considering buying my grow bags this weekend and getting them planted up!

I'm using big pots rather than growbags, I like the extra depth. Have you had the frosts we've had Rhod? If so, I'll stop worryingimage

My tomatoes have been perfect in my greenhouse Though if the temperature was due below 5c I covered them in fleece.

It got down to 1.4c one night last week and they werent affected with fleece over the top of them image

10-15L pots work much better than growbags, I still cant understand growbags, they are way too shallow.
