Nerines and Lilies
in Plants
I have some nerine bowdenii bulbs. When's the best time to plant them and how? I know that in borders they need to be baked and I don't have an appropriate sunny place for them so I'm hoping to grow them in pots. How should I plant them and when?
Lilies - when's the best time to plant them, whether in pots or open ground? I planted tiger lilies over a month ago and no signs of growth yet I've also planted oriental lilies in pots and one pot is starting to sprout but there's nothing at all yet from the other. Should I dig up the no-shows and assume they're not going to grow? In garden centres some are already flowering! I'm confused!
Any advice or info welcome - thank you.

I planted my Nerine Bowdenii bulbs in October. They are coming along nicely both in pots and the borders. Hopefully someone will come along and give you more advice.
Plant both now wisehedgecrone. I grow them both in pots and in the borders. Don't worry about the lilies you've already planted, they'll come up soon I'm sure. No need to dig them up and disturb them. Whereabouts in the country are you, perhaps it's just not warm enough for them yet. Some but not all of mine are showing.I grow several different types of them and they're always reliable. Unless the lily beetle gets to them.
I leave the tops of my Nerines exposed and they stay in their pots over winter although I put them somewhere frost free. I grew them in the ground for years and for a few years now they've been in pots. I just use mp compost for both although folk say lilies like ericaceous soil.
Thank you both! I will plant them asap. Slightly concerned that Yviestevie planted theirs in October - will mine have a chance to flower?
Will give them a try though - and thanks for reassurance about the lilies!
Many people are planting them now, yours will still flower this year although they will be later.
