Help/advice needed

Hi. I am new to this site but I am looking for some advice. I recently had my gas box moved to the front of my house and the gas pipes are externally over the top left hand side of my doorstep into the house. As I have young children I am looking to hide these gas pipes by putting a flower pot in front to stop them standing or playing beside them. Can you please advise a low maintenance plant which will look nice all year round which I can put in a pot on the front door step. The step has the sun mid afternoon and is generally sheltered all other times. I have a picture of the gas pipes on the step which explains this better however I cannot see how I can upload it. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

That's a really poor arrangement. Couldn't theydo better than that?

Yeah it's abit of a mess. Hence why I would like it hiding with plants as that is the cheapest option.
  • I agree with nutcutlet - that it's a mess and, actually, doesn't look safe. However, if you want something bushy and evergreen I suggest one of the pyracanthas which have flowers and berries. They also have thorns to stop anyone from messing about with the pipes.image

That work just doesn't seem right at all. Were they gas safe registered? I think I would try to surround the area with lots of little clay pots each with the same plant in. Can't think what though. I'll research and come back.

The piping needs to be boxed in first with a suitable covering to protect it from the elements, being knocked or punctured. I'm happy to be wrong but work like that needs to be certified. Do you have a certificate to say it's safe. It's unlikly bare gas pipes outside would pass an inspection.

Totally agree with Hollie, that is illegal, should be reported, get a certified gas fitter to have a look.

In the mean time, maybe you could just trip over it and sue the person that laid them like that.

Thank you everyone for your comments. These pipes were installed by sgn via scottish hydro electric. I have emailed the photo to them advising on the state of the work carried out. I am not holding much hope of a solution from them. However I would like to put a pot there in the short term to stop my children or their friends from going beside the pipes.
