Clematis Pests??

Hi can anyone please help.
I have planted 3 clematis and have treated them with a liquid slug solution in the soil. Have sprayed the leaves with Ultima pest spray AND a homemade garlic & chilli spray which I believe is very good at protecting against slug/snail damage.
Unfortunately my poor clematis leaves are STILL being eaten!
At the moment they still look pretty healthy. I bought them from Tesco's and are called "The President", (I'm assuming that's the colour of flowers that will produce rather than the actual clematis variety).
Can anyone suggest what else could be eating my poor plants?....and any way to treat the blighters!!!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! x

Funny you should ask this question because earlier today I was wondering the same thing to one of mine and saw a caterpillar rummaging near it. Google is your friend

Thanks guys, I had an early start the other morning and went out with a torch around 4am but couldn't see anything but will persevere! Have just put a few pellets down Verdun and thanks for clarifying that the name IS the variety! x
I lost sight of the caterpillar I spotted earlier but just had a persistent rummage and the world is now one moth less
I hate having to cull caterpillars or beetles as I don't really view them as more harm than good, unlike slugs and snails but my clematis needs chance to get big enough to survive the rigours of garden pests
Yes Wintersong, thats how I feel. Was out there at 2am but couldn't see anything on them. Up this morning and another half a dozen leaves have been massacred!!! Just don't know what to do!
