    Thank you. I googled it and searched the RHS website to find out what it looks like fully grown and if it's a weed. I think I've determined it's persicaria but still not sure if it's a weed.

    There are types of persicaria which are garden plants, however I'm pretty sure the one you have is the one usually regarded as a weed.  It's often found on arable land and gardens.

    Just in case its name worries you, although it is related, it is not Japanese Knotweed and there is no need to panic image
