To fig or not to fig?

in Fruit & veg
My lovely daughter very kindly gave me a smallish Brown Turkey fig as a present recently. Although still in its 15cm pot (yes I know I must get it planted out asap) it is about 45cm tall, but already has six figs on it! Am I right in thinking that I have to murder most, if not all, of these dear little fruits because the 'tree' is too young to have them really? Should they all go, or may I leave the biggest and strongest (currently about 12mm) to mature?

Thanks Verdun. Planning to plant it in a big tub/pot sunk into the ground, as I know they are supposed to do better with their roots restricted. Will hopefully get it sorted in the next week or so.
My one didn't fruit until planted in the ground, and now we are inundated.
I'd love to be inundated with figs - I'll keep my fingers crossed.
