Think that's a prunus sucker - just how wooded do you want your woodland area to be?
oh ok, I didn't realise that is how they grew. It is about 10ft from the hedge.
Think I'd paint it with some glyphosate. The amount needed for that small sucker won't affect any large tree it's joined on to.
