Revive drowned Christmas tree

I have a six year old tree which lives in a pot. Each Xmas it comes in for 10 days.

During the first batch of heavy rain in June, after a few days I noticed the top of the pot was sitting in water.

I made some holes for it to drain off, but a couple of months later it had shed all its needles.

They have not come back.

Will they or would it be dead? Five months on I would have liked to think I would be seeing signs of life.
