Drowning bamboo, how much can they take?
we have an unprecedented depth of water here. One bamboo is already inundated another nearly so and the rain keeps falling.
How much of this can they take?
One is Phyllostachys 'Vivax', not quite under water. The other I don't know the name of, it's 10-12 foot tall, wanders and is under water for at least half of its spread.

I'm on a clay soil and experience a lot of waterlogging, in many parts of my garden most Winters.
I have many bamboos, of various species, and have never experienced any problems due to waterlogging, or severe cold.
Heavy snow can weigh them down. But they recover.
Thanks Georg. That's very encouraging.

I don't think there is much chance of drowning bamboo its hard to get rid of once it takes a hold!its not killed off in my garden by the water logging and I have seen a splendid bamboo in a garden right next to a pond and river that is flooded often.
That's all good. We're not used to floods here.

Bamboos are tough and survive in the boggy jungles in the tropics where they grow wild, so yours should be OK; especially if they are established. It's heavy and persistent frost that kills them. Good luck
Thanks all, I'm more hopeful now, especially about the more established one.
