  • Ahh. This info is good. I have used sets for the past 6 years and they always bolt and i dont get many. I always thought I was just a crap onion grower lol. Whens best to plant seeds then?

    Sam, sow seed over Xmas holidays for maximum growth. Boxing day is traditional day for it. So, get your seed now.

    Thanks for the heads up...I will do. I just need to get rid of the wireworm in the garden. They are NOT gettin onions for a second year! Grrrrrrrr image

  • Hi all, I too have been advised to grow my onions from seed that have been sown over Christmas as they are less likely to bolt. I have been recommended Bedfordshire seeds,as usual any futher advice appreciated.image

  • I was given 5 kelsea to try out this past season, did ok, but didnt keep well.What is the best compost to grow the seeds in?

    Hi very interesting thread I'd really appreciate some more info please, if growing onions from seed sown at christmas time, what temperatures are you using for germination and what conditions and where /  how long do you keep the seedlings before planting them outside. Thanks in advance Norm
