Is there still life in there?

Hi guys,

I have a mini Eastern White Cedar that was massively neglected, it was put on the window and left for around a month with little/no water. The side that was facing the Window has browned and is now very brittle, however the side no facing the window remains green.

I have added water to moisten up the previously solid soil, I am just wondering if this is a hopeless cause or, with a long slog and lots of care, there could still be a way back.

Pictures for info.

Pot it in a larger container with draining holes.  With a lot of TLC it may return to life eventually.  Maybe a very gentle pruning to encourage new growth (don't trim out the very top stem though)?

Top stem? You mean the equivalent of the trunk?

After having a look it seems very root bound, but I am not sure if it would handle re potting in its fragile state?

I don't know this conifer but generally speaking a conifer that has gone brown stays brown. (Until the dead leaves drop off then it's a stick).

I'd start again if you want one of these, no way back from thereimage

nutcutlet No new growth of branches here?

Nutcutlet is probably right, it's not worth the effort.. but I tend to get sentimentally attached to plants, and don't always do the most humane option by putting them out of their misery.

Can you plant it outside, or pot it outside in a large container?  It's pretty dry inside for a conifer.  I'd trim it back to live growth, and put it outside somewhere and cross my fingers.  Worse that happens is it dies.. which is the direction it's heading already.  Or maybe it will put on a new flush of growth and eventually fill out in a few years time.  No idea.. but what do you have to loose?

Hi Blue Onion thank you for your reply.

I am indeed attached to it (as you can tell by it having a name).

I am confused by the notion that it is too dry for it though. Prior to being in this house it was in my girlfriends room? Although admittedly that room did have some damp issues.

How much of a large container? The plant itself is actually very very small.

I think it is dead but does not know it yet, but also think it is worth putting outside and seeing if it grows or not.
