Your hubby is right to be proud Amy, that's quite an achievement for a relatively small club. A bit like the cobblers (Northampton) making it. That said they did manage it in the 60s though I was too young to remember Sorry off topic...
Make friends with a few gardeners and raid their gardens near the big day. You will be surprised how wide a choice you have. I let people do it, in return for a bit of cake.
We've got other options covered Watery - The bride is also growing some flowers, along with her brother and also her cousin who works at a nursery who have kindly offered her a whole poly tunnel to grow lots of gyp! She is also going to pre-order some roses with a flower wholesaler. I only offered to 'help' (as much as I could) because I now have a large garden whereas I lived in flat before (hence the 'novice' status ) plus I thought it was a good excuse to get into gardening which I have always wanted to.
The wedding is fairly low-key and with a 'homemade' theme - she is making little pots of homemade sweets for favours, there is going to be a table full of home-baked goods as well as a home-made wedding cake. So, with that in mind, she wanted as many homegrown flowers dotted about the place as possible.
I have sown various poppies, corn flowers, love in the mist, gyp and sweet peas - the sweet peas are the only ones I have concerns over at the moment as I would have imagined they would be growing further up the canes by now
Hi Amy, my husband is afcb thriugh and through ( though he now lives oop north) my sweet peas looked small for a while then suddenly started to grow, I think when the sun really comes they should set off, fingers crossed you should have flowers by then, I haven't read through all replies so forgive me if I'm repeating, use dilute tomato feed when you see buds
It sounds like it will be a lovely wedding and you are very sweet to help. I'm sorry for being negative. Looks like you've got lots of good ideas going. Hope it all goes well!
Thanks Mike - yes, I had sown seeds last autumn but as I do not have a greenhouse, I bought a PVC one - it got absolutely wrecked when we had a fortnight of really strong winds! I was devastated as all my little seedlings were all over the garden
Careful with the poppies Amy , they don't hold on to there petals very good ,pick them last and avoid blooms which are fully out. B&Q usually have some decent sweet pea plants.
