How do you fill a trough
A big wooden trough, how do you fill it? i was thinking all the weight of stones and compost would be too heavy for a trough, how do you guys do it?

Add in washed plastic jugs (orange juice, milk, etc) along the bottom with the cap on tight to contain the air.
Thanks guys, i have not bought one yet, i have seen them, similar to this, same size.
Wont be moving it once it has flowers in it.
What sort of surface are you putting it on? Something that size, as it won't be moved: first I'd line the sides with black plastic to protect the wood, then fill with a good base of gravel topped with water permeable weed suppressant cloth (to keep the dirt out of the gravel and to aid drainage). Then filled up with a JI3. What are you planting?
Thank you, it will be sitting on top of gravel under my window, Verdun not sure yet, big one ike 4 or 5 ft long ish? Sure i seen them in a garden centre local to me, must go back to check.
Plants i am not sure of, i just want something big under my living room window with colourful flowers, as it is just now its gravel and rather boring to look at.
If it were me, I'd plant spring bulbs and a couple of shrub fuchsia.
Thanks Blue Onion, Verdun i never even thought about that, thats an idea, will have to see what the soil is like and if its deep, as the last tenant loved weedkiller, he killed everything out the back, soil and gravel all weedkilled. Am sure out the front underneath the gravel is black liner, will have a look and keep you updated. Really good idea, thanks xxx
