One probable weed, one possible keeper

keepitlivekeepitlive Posts: 102

Morning all. Could the assembled Brains Trust help identify 2 plants please. I am pretty sure that the first is a weed, but I would appreciate confirmation before I dig it out.

The second is a survivor at the back of an overgrown border. I know there were some campanulas in there (seemingly long lost). Could this be one of them?

 Thanks

The first one looks like a wild geum. It has small yellow flowers.

The second one looks like an eryngium, sea holly to me, but I'm not sure which one.

    Agree on !.

2 looks like Helleborus argutifolius [ aka H. corsicus ]

How can you lie there and think of England

    Thanks Gardenmaiden, punkdoc, nutcutlet.

I assume that the Hellebore argutifolius is a seedling (although I have never grown it here). It may have come under the fence from neighbours garden. Am I right in thinking that it will not come true, and if so, is it likely to be worth keeping?

It's a lovely plant and a species so will come true. There may be some cultivars but the species is fine as it is.
