Vinca Minor in pots or containers?

Hi, New to the forum etc so hello to all......I want to plant some Vinca Minor in pots/containers. Is this possible and what size diameter and heighe should I go for to put 3 different ones in with them ideally overflowing over edge of pot etc or is it better to put just one in each pot?

You can grow practically anything in a container.....look at bonsai.....so your vinca will be fine in a pot. They do like shade though so don't put them in full sun. If you are using something like a 30cm diameter pot you could probably get away with using three plants for instant visual impact but they will need feeding regularly.
  • Thanks very much for the reply, if I was to get one and put in a 30cm pot would it spread to take up the while size or would 30cm be too much for a single plant? Sorry for all the questions, new to it all image

Vincas are spreading groundcover plants so it will eventually fill and overflow the whole pot.  I have a beautiful vinca minor with deep green foliage and deep purple flowers that was bought in a 9cm pot for a small bed at the front under trees.  It filled the whole 2' x 3' bed within a year or so and it has a very long flowering season.  One of my best buys ever.

I hadn't thought of putting some in a pot, but you've given me ideas now.  It roots really easily - I'll just pull a clump up from the edge.

  • That sounds nice, I was thinking of a tall pot in a shaded corner and it can overflow the edges with nice flowers as well hopefully?

You can put one plant in a 30 cm pot but it will take a little while to fill it so you could always add some annuals to fill up the space in the meantime.

It should look beautiful and by keeping it confined to a pot, you won't have the problem of its rampaging across the rest of the garden.

  • Thanks, whilst we are on the pot size subject (another newbie question), what is the maximum size and height of pot I should be looking for to put my Argyranthemum plant in?
