I have only just heard of leatherjackets (new to gardening) but having looked them up online I realise I have seen them in the earth when I have been digging over the beds. Unfortunately, I just left them there not realising what they were.
What should I have done?
Do I understand correctly that it is too late to apply nematodes now and that they should be applied in the autumn?

Should I apply nematodes to beds and grass? There are no signs of bare patches on the grass (trying to calculate how much to buy).
It's a shame I didn't know what they were - I would have been happy to lay out a feast for the birds
