Painting garden ornaments

  • Here is 'water feature'    I suppose I could put it in the front garden in the hope that it gets stolen!

Could you try some masonry paint on it Lyn?

Or just keep it behind the trellis.....image

I think the problem with these fetaures  is the solar panel on top. It's not the most attractive thing in the world, is it? Maybe you could take that off and put a trailing plant in it instead, and tell the neighbour it mysteriously 'got broken' .... image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

To the OP, Cuprinol Garden Shades is supposed to be suitable for painting terracotta, concrete etc.

  • Yes - used as a planter sounds a reasonable idea. The solar panel is pretty hideous and it splashes water in a circle all round it (on my gravel which would probably end up going green and slimy - plus it lights up at night, by the way! )  I don't want to use anything that's going to peel off. Has anyone painted resin?

There are some very good spray paints available for outdoor resin Lyn, you will be glad to know you can even get ones that resemble stone! check out 'Rust-Oleum's painter's touch' these are easily available in Wilko's, and most DIY stores. Also, the DIY stores like b &q do their own brands. There are lots of colours and 'finishes' to be had. I love playing around with these.image

  • Thanks Meome   I will check them out. I have used the spray 'stone' paint before but on a fireplace - not outside. image

  • Hi

    Thanks for your reply Doghouse.

I don't think I'd have a problem if this was made of concrete - could be made to look weathered (this urn is concrete)  It's just the fact that it's resin that bothers me as don't want paint to flake or peel off in a couple of months.

  • Just seen your pic. imageVery impressive Doghouse!

  • I have a polyresin fountain and painted with Bern Premium plus  (paint and primer). It's begun to sweat. Anyboby can tell me if I ned another paint or what I did wrong

Maybe the wrong product?  See Meomye's post on the previous page, lower down.

If the Bern stuff is recommended for polyresin - see label - then contact the manufacturer and see what they advise.
