Freesias

in Plants
I planted a number of freesia bulbs towards the end of April. There is so sign of them actually sprouting yet. How long does it normally take for them to appear above ground and if they grow will they flower this year. Many thanks for your assistance.

I have planted nearly 50 all in large pots. Such a shame if they don't have any fragrance. I have very little space perhaps I should put the pots to better use. .
I planted some in pots in the greenhouse in autumn 2013 and they flowered well in summer 2014. However, like Welshonion's, they had little or no scent. Apparently the ability to smell freesias is genetically determined, but I have always been able to smell bought ones! I still think they are good value though, if you can spare the space, as my bulbs cost way less than the £4 they charge for 5 stems in my local SM! Possibly the growing conditions in commercial greenhouses produce more perfume, or maybe, like roses and other things, the quest for larger flowers comes at the price of fragrance.
I certainly won't throw them away.
On the other hand some anemones I planted in early 2014 flowered well last year and have been flowering this year since February. They make excellent cut flowers.
my freesias that I planted this year I have only had 2 out of about 10 bulbs do anything. I have grown them in the past, very well. if only I could remember what I did differently this year...
ive even took some out of the compost and had a look.there they sit.doing nothing.but their mates have .I wonder why?!
I find them more than a little finicky - one year they do OK and others virtually nothing. I think it depends on how the bulbs have been produced and treated by the suppliers. I've never managed to get them to flower again in the second year despite trying all sorts of mollycoddling.
