What is this?

Hi all

I apologise if this is a silly question as I am new to gardening...

Could someone tell me what this is please? It's popped up in about 3 different places.

Thanks

Agree - it's either Astilbe or the wild British Native version known as Meadow Sweet -used as a sweetly scented strewing herb on floors before carpets came along image

It looks exactly like my Astilbe right now. Not a silly question at all. I love the 'what plant is this?' posts. This plant likes to be in moist ground. We've hardly had any rain for ages here in York but the plant still looks healthy.

    Yes, I'd say astilbe,

meadow sweet has a larger, coarser look.

It seems to be growing at an alarming rate, and popping up in different parts of the front garden which is a bit worrying. Is this normal for Astilbe, or could it be something else?
