Asparagus

I'd have preferred to plant them about 6 - 8 weeks ago, but they're hardy and should be in their dormant phase - they should be fine as long as they're in a free-draining soil. They should have been planted on little ridges so that the roots slope down away from the crown.

I'd probably give them a good mulching with some well rotted manure or good quality compost to give them a bit more protection and help keep weeds down.

  • I planted them about two weeks ago in raised beds and planted on little ridges, thought fleece might give extra protection

  • They ought to be ok but if we get the really cold spell we've been promised fleece won't do any harm and might do some good - just don't let them get soggy.  Good luck image
