Ideas for trailing evergreen plant for underplanting honeysuckle

pariatepariate Posts: 77

Hi all

We have a lovely honeysuckle in a very large pot.  The honeysuckle is trained to grow over railings which stand above the pot.  The pot is very wide and I'd like to find something to use for underplanting, DEFINITELY evergreen and ideally trailing/something that will spill over the sides.  The pot is about 50cm wide and 80cm tall.  If we could avoid blue flowers that would be great; the pot is blue and I'd like some contrast.  White, pink or purple maybe?

I've looked into campanula, some periwinkles, creeping thyme, Iberis sempervirens, Arenaria montana, bacopa.  Does anyone have any thoughts on these?  I've read that periwinkles can form very dense roots that make them less than ideal for sharing a pot with another plant.

A small ivy would be a last resort, unless you can think of something small enough that it won't try to take over and also has variegated leaves.

Look forward to hearing your ideas!
