Lawn issues - please help!
Hello - my lawn has a lot of bare patches and I am struggling to find the reason for the problem. The turf is only 2 years old, and was looking very healthy last summer. Funnily enough the same has happened with my neighbour's new lawn.
There was no grass discoloration before the areas went bare, nor have any birds etc. been pecking at the grass (so I have ruled out Leather Jackets). There are a lot of slugs around, however I am unclear whether they could do this type of damage?
If anyone thinks slugs may be the culprit, can anyone suggest a good and suitable product for elimination on the lawn?
Any thoughts much appreciated!

I'd treat for leather jackets first, slugs won't damage a lawn. Think about drainage as well, dig around in the bare patches before resowing, see if the culprits are visable.
Am with Dave - it sounds like Leatherjacket grubs eating the grass roots. You can buy a water in solution to kill them in future. You can catsh lots of them by soaking the lawn and then laying cardboard or the like on top overnight and the grubs will be hiding in between the next morning. You may find a lot of them, so be warned.
check for hard patches with a fork, could be stones stopping roots reaching down and then being burned off by hot dry weather. slugs have no effect on grass but if a lot of slugs around sounds like wet conditions. If trees or shrubs around area could be roots taking the water out of ground and stressing the grass. leatherjackets give grass a sight oil type of colour.
