hedge recovery

Hi All,

Have cut my hedge down by half, not sure of the type but is not conifer, more like a box/yew.

I have mulched, fed and watered it but anyone got any idea's about whether it will recover.

Can certainly see why you cut it back!  I think you're unlikely to get much fresh growth out of those old woody stems.  Looks like Yew?  (Which is a conifer, btw.  image).

What about taking it all out next to the building and making some cold-frames? image

It looks like Lonicera nitida to me, so it should come back quite quickly.

    I agree Lonicera nitida.

I think I'd make that a bit narrower, taper it in towards the top a bit. I would expect it to make a hedge again and you might as well start with a good shapeimage

  • How is the hedge now? We've just moved into a house with a huge overgrown hedge like yours and are unsure how it will recover once it has had a good cut back.

  • Looking quite good actually! I'll post a photo tomorrow.
  • Thanks!
