Larkspur seeds

AlxNicAlxNic Posts: 259

I saw somewhere on the forum that it's better to put larkspur seeds in the - was it fridge or freezer? - before planting.

I had already planted some seeds straight from the packet but would like to follow the fridge/freezer idea with the rest of the packet.

Could someone explain what I should do, please?

Thanks

put the seeds in a bag of moist compost/vermiculite and put them in the fridge for 6 weeks. Keep an eye on them, they may germinate in there. I sow them early in a cold GH, much easier

I just put the seed packet in the freezer for a week and than sowed them, seemed to work OK and have 2nd lot just germinating.

they did take a while to germinate though.

    They are brilliant

Now you need to prick on your seedlings - that means that you put them into individual and bigger modules so they get bigger. Plant them  so the leaves are just touching the compost.  After a while their root sytems will have developed and can then be plated out.

I sowed my delphinium seeds in a tupperware and kept them in the fridge for about 3 weeks and spritzerd with water occasionally. I took them out and kept them on the windowsill and almost threw them out but after a couple more weeks saw a few sprouts and now 80% of them have turned into seedlings.

Be patient is all I say. If you have already plated some, try the fridge way and you can compare them.

Thanks Matty, does this mean i have to put each and every one of them in each pot? Bigger pots but individual seedlings?
