Plant ID please

No flowers yet but can anyone tell me what this is?  Thanks

  • To me it looks like Symphocarpus,sorry about spelling.

    I could be wrong I've been wrong before but I expect some else will be along in a minute

    I'd say Philadelphus. It would be better pruned by cutting a few old stems back to base after flowering than by shortening them as they show now. It gives a more elegant effectimage

  • Thanks chrissy -  looking online I think it resembles the philadelphus. I can see why you thought symphocarpus image quite similar leaf.

    Very strongly scented. I don't like the smell much but most people doimage

  • Oh good - I'm short of scented plants in my garden. Hope I like it. Wisteria is  gorgeous but doesn't last long enough. One plant that I dont like the smell of is Ribes Sanguineum - ugh
