Peach Tree advice

Hi there. Last year I bought a peach tree from one of the big diy stores that I am keeping in a big pot on my patio. I have noticed last year that two new branches (or are they called trunks) have grown out of the base of the tree - the bit below soil. They leaves look similar but not identical. In this situation, do I cut them off or do I just leave them as they might be new peach tree off shoots. PS I am a gardening idiot image Thanks in advance. I do have photos, but cannot seem to attach any. Nick

No such thing as a gardening idiot image

Assuming your tree is grafted on to a rootstock (done to increase or decrease vigour, you can usually see a join) if the shoots are growing from the rootstock, then chop them off as they wont be peach, if the shoots are coming from the peach bit, then its really just your choice on what shape you want the tree to be image

The only thing i would say is if you have a dog, you might want to keep the height of any fruit above leg cocking range!image
