Cherry tomato varieties are best.. The fruit quickly, AND don't seem to suffer from blossom end rot, splitting, etc.  They'll get blight like the rest of them, but that aside they give the best results, in my opinion.   My favorite last year was Sungold.

I tested a number of varieties for frost resistance. Out blocks of 5 of named varieties the number of survivors  of a night's frost were

    Alicante 1

    Ailsa Craig 3

    Maskotka 0

    Sungold F1 0

    Oxheart 0

    Mortgage Lifter 0

    Sub-arctic Plenty 3

    Red alert 0

    Sungold 0

I'm not sure about resistance to Phytophthora infestans (late blight) and other wind-borne pathogens, the weather being hot enough for it here would be a fine thing.

I've grown Sungold, Chocolate Cherry and Gardeners Delight outdoors and they all produced reasonable crops.
