Having grown Bishops Children dahlias for the first time this year I am unsure about pinching out. I have pinched out the tips once and they have made good, if leggy, growth again. Do I pinch out again or just leave them alone now?
I grew theses a few years ago..they are smashing plants and the bees etc love them.
Where are your plants, a house window sill? And how tall are they, have new stems appeared from the leaf joints after the first pinch. What size pots are they in.
It's probably more a case of them needing more light. I have a small greenhouse so I'm lucky, if you don't have one try popping the plants outdoors in a warm sheltered spot and bringing them back indoors on an evening.
Thanks Bilje. I'm having problems with posting photos at the moment but they are 6" or over and I have some in a zipped up mini greenhouse and some on the windowsill in an unheated room. They have all developed good side shoots and it's really these I want to know whether to pinch back. They are in 3/4 inch pots.
Really think I sowed them too early as it's going to get difficult keeping them frost free in the next few weeks.
Oops I meant 3" to 4" pots (that did look like 3/4". Think first, type later) and the roots are showing so I probably need to pot on soon. Thanks for your help

I'd get them into bigger pots. Stand up against a wall for protection and have the fleece ready, or move inside temporarily if a frost is forecast.
