Laurel hedge
in Talkback

Hi can anyone advise on why my laurel hedge is looking like this. They were planted last May, and looked good up to around January.

They're looking a bit stressed and are trying to flower.
Were they regularly watered last summer?
I'd cut them hard back.to knee height, then give them a sprinkling of fish blood & bone (as directed on the pack), a good soaking at the roots and then a thick mulch with organic matter like composted bark.
Then a good regular watering regime throughout the summer. They need two buckets of water per plant at least twice a week. Three times a week in a dry spell.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Is it normal for Laurels be flowering at this time of year?
Yes they had been water not to much to drown them just kept moist throughout summer. They are approx 6ft tall, so going down to knee height may be a bit much, I thought may be better just to take a couple of ft off them.
thanks for the advice.
cant say if it's normal for them to be flowering at this time of year, I have never had them before.
There is no poing in leaving that growth on them, it will not green up again, those leaves will drop off leaving bare stalks, chop them right back as Dove says, they will make lots of growth this coming year.
