Veg Patch

we have just dug out a veg patch where the soil is heavy clay. We have added compost that has previously beeen used and had gromore added last autumn although nothing grown in it since. Will this be sufficient to grow beans, broccoli and caulis this year? And what about after that? Do we need to add anything else for future?

You should be fine with the crops you want to grow. You will need to add some form of fertiliser every year though some crops are hungrier than others and it will pay to rotate the crops so that you don't grow the same thing in the same place two years running. That will help to stave off pests and diseases. Do a bit of research on crop rotation and tweak the advice to suit your particular plot and the things you like to grow. If you have a very small plot and only grow a limited number of vegetables then it could be that a two year rotation will suit you best.

As has been said, your soil will be fine to grow those crops - and each year you'll add homemade compost and/or manure and each year the soil will get better and better image

Clay soil is very fertile, retains moisture, and is excellent for many veg. As said, just pile on some compost each year, some say 1". Look into the no dig approach too. I'm trying it with my clay soil. What I have found is that laying compost on top leads to extra watering needed to germinate seeds, unlike clay which holds water well. I have yet to see how well plants grow.
