Return to the gardens of our grandmothers
in Talkback
Hi everyone, I would like to ask you for help regarding the collection of all possible bases for the rebirth of the gardens of our grandmothers. It was a garden where you found everything you need and flowers, vegetables, herbs and fruit was perfectly connected among themselves and grow well. Thank you for all sorts of knowledge, ideas, advice and documented combinations of plants that belong to these gardens. Thank you all for help.

I was rather thinking, combination and arrangement of plants and advice on how to rebuild such a garden today ...
If anyone has the opportunity to get even some contemporary designs or bending details including a description of plants ... I'll be glad for the help
both of my grandmothers were dead decades before I was born, Sorry, can't help, but good luck.
cheeky! my grandparents ( and I still do!) in Sheffield, had a lovely little rose garden at the front, a beautiful lilac shrub at the side and a long lawn with borders that kept getting wide! (bit like mine!) other set (also in Sheffield) had a very neat square lawn with a fair sized greenhouse packed with tomatoes and chrysanthemums
Thank you for your follow-up on my forum. I'm interested in the period from the mid-19th century to the "disappearance" of these amazing rural gardens, which are found both useful and ornamental plants. Nowadays a lot of people to separate and I think it's a shame. Previously, colorful gardens, full of plants that could be processed in the kitchen, then there were flowers and fruit trees. At the same time in the gardens a lot of songbirds and butterflies ... now it is very rare ...
Therefore, I collect all sorts of advice and contemporary records and stories to such gardens bringing back to life.
It is clear to me that he can probably get passed a description of the gardens of the time, if I byvit the gardens of our grandmothers. It is true that a lot of useful things concerning gardens and plant combinations forgotten. I would like to revive a bit. So when someone you could insert something useful, I will be very happy. Trying to gather information for a community of people who want to turn such gardens to establish.
Thank you very much
