Hostas
in Plants
Hostas from a car boot sale. Over the years they have increased in number, and I have bought bigger pots to accommodate them Today I have bought a HUGE pot from the orange apron shop, and turned out my largest pot of them to repot. To say they were potbound is putting it mildly! Hubby has had to use a fork and shovel to seperate them, they were rock solid. Still have lots left over. Question is, are the ones I have repotted going to survive? We had to chop some of the roots sadly. Thank you.

the more the merrier.
Verdun,
Have you grown Fire Island?
Have had no success with it, even had replacement plants and they have kicked the bucket as well.
Was told about Designer genes, have bought it though very few growers seem to have any stock of it at the moment!
Cheers
Why pots and not in the ground Beanyjeany?
I have a dozen differeny types of Hosta - trying some giants this year - Empress Wu and Big Daddy.
Thanks everyone for your comments, you have put my mind at rest
Blairs, I grow them in pots as it's easier to keep the slugs off them. I put copper tape around the bottom of the pots. Not very pleasing to the eye, but at least the leaves stay intact and not like lace doilies as some I have seen with slug damage. I think I am going to have to give the spares away, I can't bear to throw them away after the plant has been kind enough to produce them. I am going to google Fire Island x
blairs, Empress Wu is a stunner, she's already about 18" / 45cm tall.
Big Daddy is a fave of mine too.
Swap them or donate them to a charity plant sale. It's what I do and this year I have nearly 2 dozen hosta divisons going spare from potted ones I've split using a large bread knife to saw them up into chunks.
Just waiting for a few more in the ground to show their noses in my shadiest bed and they'll be dug up and moved/divided to give them more growing space.
