Black spots on patio

I have numerous black spots on my patio slabs.I have tried Karcher pressure washing And general patio cleaner. Which has not helped.
Any ideas?

Could you post a picture? It could be a number of things.

I was going to ask if a pressure washer would help remove lichen but seeing Jeff's post, I'd guess not.
I have been doing the bleach wash as per 'pavingexpert' but I am not seeing a huge improvement. Maybe I have to wait longer or do it a few more times - I have worn down one patio brush to the wood.
Has anyone had any success with any other method?
