Hundreds of these the garden. Is it a californian poppy?

Obviously self seeds, and roots go down very deep. Flower is poppy-like, yellow/orange.

Thanks

Thank you nutcutlet. I'm looking at the garden as a 'blank slate' now (or ir will be once I remove my thug collection)

I have learned a fair bit in the past 2 months - thank you for sharing your knowledge

They self seed like crazy and form a long tap root. easily enough to pull out in sandy soil but a bu**er in clay. Pull off the old flower heads as they pass to stop them setting seed if you want them controlled.
