I planted some at the foot of a north-facing wall - they were great for about 8 months, but didn't survive the very wet/cold/snowy winter a couple of years ago.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Mine may be Burgundy Glow. They spread around and bits die out and sometimes it looks great and other times really sad. I think it would do better if I had it in better soil.

Grows anywhere, even deep shade. Pretty flowers and easy to remove if it spreads too far.
