Weeds vs Slabs (pics inside)

Hi all,

I've recently bought a new properly with a garden, and never having done gardening before. I'm thinking of the best way to tackle it. The majority of tidying I'm ok with, but it's the weeds/grass between slabs I'm thinking I'll need help with.

Is they best way to tackle this, pulling up all the slabs and removing it all? Or will a strong killer help with it?

Thanks

I prefer organic methods but this looks as though it needs something toxic. Try using something like Roundup which should kill the weeds roots and all. There is no point in lifting a patio and starting again if you don't have to. If the weeds' roots have damaged the patio in any way, you will be able to sort that out once you can see the slabs more easily.

Agree with Ceres, nice strong weedkiller and then see what you've got. Personally I'd replace them, they look very tired and the ivy will have weakened the supporting plinth. So consider removing the lot, budget allowing that is.

I did mine with the hot-air paint gun thing.  Fried the bulk of the weeds and quite fun to do.  Once the new seedlings started growing, a bit of Pathclear got rid of them.

i used to use hot very salty water and just watering can it on and they start dying off in a few days

  • I'm with Ceres and Dave on this. By weedkilling you'll buy yourself time while you start to form ideas about what you wish to do with the garden in the longer term. If you lift the slabs you'll have a mess and a lot of work which you may not have the time for at this stage.

Once the weeds are gone patio magic is great for cleaning paved areas i use a sprayer and make sure each slab is soaked and gradually it cleans and stops green algae.
