plants for a windy location

I've been told to plant up a raised bed with flowers/perennials for my works,

the bed is 8m long and 2m wide, its about 40/50cm deep on soil. its located at the base of a 15 story tower block so get severe downdrafts, but is in full sun most of the day.

i'm mostly a sheltered garden person (as that's the only personal experience I have) and I mostly work with edible plants (fruit and veg)

has anyone got any idea of what I plant in this bed? has to be easy maintenance as the more mature residents are the ones who are going to have to look after it after the project is finished.

You can use this feature on the RHS website to key in info about the plant site and see what the database recommends - https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/search-form

It allows you to enter aspect, exposure, soil type and garden type as well as hardiness needs and even colour of flower.   Have fun.

How's about new Zealand flax, Tamarix, Berberis, Achillea, Bay, Echinops, Verbena, Crocosmia, Hebes, Lavender, Rosemary, Spiraea, Agapanthus,

most things with silvery, feathery, or waxy leaves are pretty good for wind too...I live right by the sea & we get salt laden winds all the time, their's lots of stuff you can grow, it's just getting used to what likes it & what doesn't!! image
