caterpillars into butterflies
Does anyone pick caterpillars off plants and relocate them. Every year I plant 3 cabbages in a trough just to help the butterflies as you dont see them too often. My mates mom kills caterpillars but loves butterflies and moans that they are not in the area often.

I garden with the acceptance that plants will be eaten. Theres more than enough birds in and around the garden to keep the worst down. Plus, as you know, Butterflies are awesome. Almost as great as Bees. I leave odd patches of Nettles at the back of the garden and theres plenty of Ivy round the side of the house.
I grow nettles, hedge mustard etc. in places in my garden for the caterpillars but my cabbages and sprouts get grown under netting as I know from experience that otherwise they are completely destroyed. There still seem to plenty of white butterflies around in season though!
I always relocate them, Especially when I find them on my clematis, They can devour the growing tips. But the joys of seeing any butterfly in the summer always puts a smile on my face so it can be a lose then win situation.
